Unacceptable situation for people on board

MISSION LIFELINE has been trying for more than 24 hours to get the rescued people aboard the RISE ABOVE to a safe port. The extremely cramped conditions and bad weather arebringing the situation to a head by the hour. The crew is doingeverything they can to ease the situation, but their options arelimited.

After two people were evacuated last night, all guests arestruggling with the intolerable situation. „The night was extremely stressful for our guests. The weather forced us toaccommodate the mothers with their babies in the bridge, people also spent the night in the hospital. Children sleeptightly packed under the open sky. Many guests are severelyseasick. It’s cold and wet for everyone,“ Head of Mission Clemens Ledwa reports, adding: „Even though the weathersituation has improved somewhat, the situation will continueto worsen due to the enormous psychological strain on the people on board. Every hour counts now to prevent somethingmore serious from happening.“

MISSION LIFELINE makes a strong appeal to the Italianauthorities to immediately assign a port and allowdisembarkation of all people on board. „It is the duty of the coastal state to comply immediately now. People are at stake. They must never become the plaything of political interests,“ clarifies Hermine Poschmann.

Unzumutbare Lage für Menschen an Bord

MISSION LIFELINE versucht seit über 24 Stunden, die geretteten Menschen an Bord der RISE ABOVE in einen sicheren Hafen zu bringen. Die extrem beengten Platzverhältnisse und das Schlechtwetter spitzen die Lage stündlich zu. Die Crew tut alles, um die Situation zu entspannen, aber ihren Möglichkeiten sind Grenzen gesetzt.

Nachdem am gestrigen Abend zwei Menschen evakuiert worden sind, kämpfen alle Gäste mit der untragbaren Situation. „Die Nacht war extrem belastend für unsere Gäste. Das Wetter hat uns gezwungen, die Mütter mit ihren Babys im Brückenhaus unterzubringen, auch im Hospital haben Menschen übernachtet. Kinder schlafen eng gedrängt unter freiem Himmel. Viele Gäste sind stark seekrank. Es ist kalt und nass für alle“, berichtet Clemens Ledwa als Head of Mission und fügt hinzu: „Auch wenn die Wetterlage sich etwas verbessert hat, wird sich die Situation durch die enorm große psychische Belastung der Menschen an Bord weiter verschlechtern. Jede Stunde zählt jetzt, um Schlimmeres zu verhindern.“

MISSION LIFELINE appelliert in aller Deutlichkeit an die italienischen Behörden, sofort einen Hafen zuzuweisen und eine Ausschiffung aller Menschen an Bord zu ermöglichen. „Es ist die Pflicht des Küstenstaates, dem jetzt sofort nachzukommen. Es geht um Menschen. Niemals dürfen sie zum Spielball politischer Interessen werden“, stellt Hermine Poschmann klar.
